Latin America and the Caribbean
The region's role in global issues, and how those issues affect political, economic and diplomatic developments in the hemisphere, including in US hemispheric relations.
Nearly 30 years after the wave of democratic transitions in Latin America and the Caribbean and a decade after a period of dramatic economic expansion, the region has become more diverse and more engaged in world affairs. Trade integration, an expanded diplomatic presence bilaterally and through multilateral institutions, and advocacy on issues of women’s and human rights and the environment have made the region integrated globally and loosened the weight of the US in the region.
